Ive owned this machine almost 3 full days. We have shampooed our living room and have started on our bedroom and dining room carpet. I really am super grossed out of how bad a carpet can get when you are a neat freak and you clean and vacuum regularly. Shampooing on the other hand will now happen more often since purchasing our own shampooer. So far I say the machine is tops! However with longevity of the machine I cant say. Let me first tell you proof is in the photos and I really am ashamed to share them however its the reality of carpet owners all over the world. Carpets get gross even when you are a clean housekeeper it just happens and even though no one wants that to be their carpet it is. Okay its recommended for this machine use by bissell and myself for good reason. Buy the Bissel Stain Pretreat in the spray bottle before you begin. I also bought the oxy boost by Bissell that is safe for all shampooers says on the bottle. Make sure to only use Bissell products in this machine. Vacuum the carpet with a clean vacuum make sure the filters are clean and take your time vacuuming. We shampooed our living room with the provided Bissell professional deep cleaning 2x ultra solution. I used a Bissell pet and spot treatment on the areas that were high traffic. After the shampooing I was super bummed. It didnt impress me at all. I thought our carpet is either ruined or this machine isnt good. And I was in the 1 star rated peoples experience category. So I called bissell and wasnt a fan of the mans statements or advice he said the pet and spot treatment is the same as the pretreat and to use it. Also said I need to shampoo the carpet a minimum of 3 times letting it nearly dry or completely dry between shampooing which I agree with that part because its been a few years since shampooing. (steam cleaning by a professional) by the way steam cleaning isnt deep cleaning. I said the pet and spot cleaner is the same thing? He said it was. I said so bissell is bottling the same thing labeling it different to scam people to buy more products. Then he changed his wording and said its a different formulation but just use what you have. Anyways I had written bissell also but hadnt heard back yet so I used my gut and went and got the pretreat before saying this machine wasnt good. I also got the oxy boost. I sprayed the pretreat over the whole carpet lightly and heavier on the high traffic area and shampooed for the 2nd time. At that point I felt the carpet was cleaner than with the professional steam cleaning. However I shampooed a 3rd and final time and it feels and looks amazing. We are very pleased and it smells great! This cleaned spots that the professional couldnt budge. We stopped at three cleanings. So when doing the dining room I have only done it one time and thats with the pretreat the deep cleaning solution and the oxy boost. We had an area we never realized was as bad as it was until the furniture was removed and Im grossed by this room. Its a pass through we have used it to sit in maybe 5 times in 4 years. Literally its not used. This room was worse than our living room which we always use. My photo is from only 1 cleaning with this solution. This proves that the products used was the answer. I am still shampooing it 2 more times before Im done. If we are removing all the furniture then we are going to make sure we do it good. The machine goes together well and is heavy but easy to use. Im a weak person and it gives me a little workout. Im sweating by the time I complete a room but it is a professional style machine. It needs to be heavy to do heavy work. My husband said it isnt heavy to him but hes stronger than me. He said feels like pushing a vacuum to him. Haha! Is it worth the money? In my opinion as of now yes as long as it holds up longevity wise. If our house was empty the cleaning would be done within a day or 2 but with furniture needing moved from room to room and energy wise this is going to take a few more days for the whole house. So with 3 days thats $90 plus tax worth if rented. Plus after all the gross stuff this picks up in a home that I know isnt a filthy home. I dont want other peoples germs brought into my home when cleaning the carpet. So far its worth it and I know what filth its sucked up. We also cleaned our throw rugs and clearly can tell it did a great job. They look strange to us cause it cleaned them to look like new different rugs. Our home is around 1400 sq ft I believe? We have 3 bedrooms, living room and dining room. I would say 3-4 bottles of 22oz pretreat would do our whole house and rugs with the high traffic areas that we have. Tips make sure to use the right products and treat the carpet as directed and take your time. If you havent shampooed in a few years shampoo let it dry repeat until the water improves averaging 1 time per year or year and a half of time not shampooed. 3 or 4 years 3 or 4 shampoos. Use hot water dont boil or microwave Pretreat (I rubbed the pretreat in with my hands on bad areas) let sit at least 5 minutes We sprayed the water moving forward we sucked going back. We stopped and moved slower across bad areas and we sucked over the wet carpet 2 more times getting as much water out of we could per each shampooing. It also shortens dry time and gives a better clean in my opinion. Let dry at least 2-3 hours with fans on them before repeating We washed each part of the machine very well each day after use. Be sure to clean around the brushed area of gunk from the carpet that collects there that will surprise you how much collects. Let completely dry before putting furniture on the carpets. Wood stain can run and metal can rust on carpet. Be patient. Its a huge job and if you dont do it often you need to give it fair time to take care of the job. Remember carpet wears just like clothes do. They may be clean but may not look new that isnt the machines fault. After shampooing and carpet is dry use your vacuum and go back over it all to lift any pieces that the deep cleaner lifts and leaves behind. Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor and the super soft fluffy clean carpet. The photo with the bay window lamp and fan is before and after 3 shampooing The water was 2nd shampooing The photo collage without the fan or lamp is the dining room before and after only 1 treatment 2 more is being done before stopping.

I was total blown away about how well this shampooer cleans. We are in our early 80s and I was a little worried if I bit off more then I could chew. But then if so Id just call one of the grand kids for help but it was easy to run and did a great job I would recommend this shampooer to anyone

I recently went through the 3rd carpet washer (from a competitor) in less than a year. After looking at the amount of money i have spent on three carpet washers, and trying to reconcile with the fact that i was about to spend more money on another one, i decided i would try to find the absolute best carpet washer i could buy in hopes that it would last longer. The old saying by Ben Franklin of The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten. seems to be true for me, so i headed to Amazon and started reading reviews of the different carpet cleaners i could buy. After reading what seemed like a million reviews, most people had such a great opinion of this washer that i decided to choke up and hit the buy button. Luckily for me, it went on sale during Prime day and i was able to save over $80 on it which made it seem like a no brainer for me so i hit the buy button. I received the washer, and took it home and got it set up. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats and shedding is a big problem, plus the older dog sometimes has accidents on the carpet, so i pre cleaned the carpet as best i could by hand, and then vacuumed well with a Dyson ball in preparation before using the mean green carpet washer. After setting it up, reading the instructions and learning how to release the handle on the cleaner to fold down, i started to use the machine. At first it did not seem like it was sucking the water up very good, so i stopped and looked at the bottom of the machine, and found some protective cardboard covering the bottom, so i removed it, and tried again, and wow, what a difference it made!! The machine has the best suction out of any machine i have ever used. It seems to suck up most everything that was put down by the cleaner, and man, even though i did a thorough job with the Dyson ball traditional vacuum, this machine pulled up an AMAZING amount of hair from the carpet. My wife has long hair, and we have 2 dogs, and 3 cats that shed pretty badly. Even though we keep up with the vacuuming, and i always washed the carpets with the previous machines, this machine pulled out an AMAZING amount of hair from the carpet!! And when we dumped the water, it was disgustingly dirty!! It works differently than the other vacuum style machines we had in the past, the machine is big and square and heavy, so it takes more effort to move the cleaner across the carpet, but i think that helps with sucking the water back out of the carpet! My carpets were dry in about an hour after we used it when before it would take overnight to dry. I am very impressed so far with the results of this machine! I will update again later on after i have had it for a while, but for now, i am VERY happy with the choice i made buying this machine!! Once you see how clean your carpets are, you will not regret the purchase!

    Greater than one week

Used for some pretty deep stains, unfortunately. Did a good job, not sure they could be fully removed, but it took 85% of it out. Ging to try again. Pretty easy design, and unlike a typical floor model, this one has CAPACITY. Large water tank is separate from waste tank, so you can go longer between changes. Recommended.

For really dirty carpet it takes a few passes as others said but it actually works. The pet urine cleaner mix gets the visible pee stains out and gets the stink out. The cleaner gets pretty dirty and needs cleaned before storing.

I purchased my Big Green during the 2016 Black Friday Sale for less than two-ninety. With three dogs and household members who never wipe their feet, I have struggled to keep cream colored Berber carpets and old 70s brown high-low shag clean. I have owned a Hoover branded cleaner and another Bissell which both worked OK, but there always seemed to be oversaturation of the carpet and minimal extraction. Thus the purchase of this model in hopes of faster drying times with positive, clean results. These are my impressions after unpacking and using this cleaner the first time. ☆ The Big Green was well packaged in a heavyweight cardboard box. Cleaner, cleaning hose + attachment for upholstery and User Guide were included with the option to register by mail (included card) or online or by phone. ☆ I found bits of cardboard everywhere, and a small bottle of Bissell Pro Cleaning Solution in the dirty water tank. Check the cleaner carefully all over before using (in the rollers, in the tanks...) to make sure you get all the packing materials out. ☆ The User Guide is clearly written and includes a photo which labels all the cleaners parts. ☆ The Big Green is big and boxy, but stores away much easier than those without foldable handles. ☆ The Big Green is heavy, and my shoulders and arms were tired after using it. There is no machine assistance to propel it forward and backwards. ☆ The trigger which dispenses solution is well placed under the handle where your right index finger would be. There is some resistance, and the flow indicator on the top of the machine makes it easy to monitor. ☆ This was much easier to maneuver on Berber carpet than on shag high-low. ☆ It was easy to tell how much solution was in each of the tanks by glancing at the side of the tanks, although knowing when you are out of cleaning solution is tough at times if you dont look there. ☆ Dumping out the dirty water is easy and I did it frequently to avoid the machine being heavier than it had to be when working with it. ☆ Taking a room in 6-8 lengths would be ideal. ☆ On a flat surface (like Berber carpet) it was easy to feel the suction and know that water was being extracted from the carpet. A little tougher on uneven surfaces. ☆ The power of this cleaning machine is noticeably better than the sub-two hundred dollar machines Ive used before. Im glad I bought it, as its certainly as good as any rental pro machines Ive used in the past. ☆ Pre-treating spots on your carpet prior to using this machine will make all the difference where pet or other stains are concerned. You may still have to go over those areas a few times, but this machine has the power to pull them out. ☆ There was never too much water and solution sprayed onto my carpets using this machine, and it extracts the solution very well. Overall, Im pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others for home or office. It should be noted that in the case of lighter colored carpets that have not been cleaned for a long time or have existing high traffic or pet stains, a second cleaning may be needed to achieve the desired effect. I found streaks after the carpets dried and in places like the entry and where the dogs had had accidents, I did need to reapply pre-treatment and shampoo again. When used with Bissells Pro Deep Cleaning solution, the Big Green does what it promises and is easy enough to use frequently if desired. It stores easily into a standard closet (with the handle conveniently folding down) and the directions for use are clear. If you arent looking for a magical fix to carpets that need replacing, you should be pleased with the results you get from this product. ------------------ -------------------------- NOTE: instead of using the Bissell pre-treat, you may want to consider this product that works wonders!

When we moved into our apartment five years ago, the carpet was brand new. However, between several cats missing the litter box and leaving hairball presents, and a husband who is so accident prone he practically needs a sippy cup, it had gotten so bad that walking around inside made the soles of my feet disgustingly black. I bought a Bissell Spot Bot several years ago to try to curb the problem, but, as the name suggests, its not enough to care for larger areas. Every weekend I would debate renting out a Rug Doctor machine, but at this point the whole apartment needs refreshed and I didnt want to hassle with renting and returning a machine every weekend for the next two months. Instead, I invested into this behemoth, and (at least so far) Im very glad I did. Its very easy to use, easy to clean out, and easy to refill again. It also came with 4 sample bottles of their Professional cleaning formula. One tank full of water uses less than one of those small sample bottles, so your first 4-5 tanks are basically free. The tank is large enough that I can make several soaking, deep-cleaning sweeps over about half of a 10x10 room. A casual refresh of the carpet probably wouldnt even use a full tank. I can clean and refill the machine in about ten minutes, so getting an entire room done doesnt take long at all. Longest part of the whole process has actually been moving furniture around! Photos show one room before and after cleaning, including a section with sticky soda spots, and a section that had a dark gray patch of dirty foot traffic. The suction is great. Making a few suction-only sweeps over a freshly cleaned area leaves the carpet dry enough that its totally air-dried after just a couple of hours. After the carpet has dried, Ill do a quick run over it with the vacuum to fluff up the fibers, and the carpet feels brand new again. It is a relatively heavy machine, and because of the length of the handle its not very useful for right spaces. If youre older or have back/shoulder issues it can be very difficult to use the machine. If youre a couch potato like I am, prepare yourself for a decent workout. It also dont clean flush into corners, so be prepared to get on your hands and knees with the house attachment to scrub at the 1-2 margin along the walls, if those are in need of being cleaned. Be careful not to overspray with the hose onto latex paint, as the cleaner will cause it to bubble and peel. If you have pet urine stains I highly recommend pre-existing treating with Natures Miracle, especially if its soaked through to the foam layer. Between what well save on our security deposit, and what we would have spent in renting a machine, this purchase has already paid for itself about three times over. Ive read some concerning things about the longevity of this machine. After six tanks over three sessions its still like new. Ive bought Bissell products for decades because theyve been sturdy, reliable, and performed well, and its it hope that this machine will do the same, but only time will tell.

I just got this last night and tried out a small high traffic area on my floor, we bought the house in June and was thinking about replacing the carpets. after just one pass, Im not sure if they look new but they look, feel and smell clean.!!!! good -This machine weights 50 lbs or so, you might think this is bad but it is very good, you dont have to push or pull up for the machine to clean or suck up the water, in short - no extra effort on your part. -it is very easy to push and pull, the large tires in the back really help with this - my wife is able to use it, and she has back issues - filling and emptying the water is very easy - floor is very dry even after 2 passes - attachment is easy to attach and use. - pulled up lot of hair out of the carpet, did leave strings on the floor but it sucked them up just fine - chocolate stain that was dried in for 3 months cam up in 2 passes could be better (nit picking here) - the trigger for the water is only on the right side of the handle I wish it was on both - some kind of laser grid to project on the floor, if carpets are dirty its easy if they are not so dirty you may have trouble seeing where you have cleaned already - wider clean path seems to only clean between the back wheels , the right side seem to clean closer to the edge then the left side - in a high traffic area where the padding has wore down, it will miss spots so you may have to go over this area at many different angles what to watch for make sure to follow the directions for cleaning, specially for your first time on your carpets to get them nice and clean pull in trigger and push, then still holding trigger pull back on the same path, then release trigger and push on the same path again, then pull on the same path. (that 4 pass on one path 2 with trigger and 2 without) When i read this i thought it would take forever, but it does no take that long and in heavy soiled area it does work much better, also the 2 passes with no trigger are the suction and drying passes they also do some cleaning too. I tried one pass of and it did not clean as well, for light areas or touch up one pass would be fine, the machine seems to do the most cleaning when you push with the trigger pulled. so if you just need to touch up i would say push with trigger in then push without the trigger to get the best results. if you need it to dry faster make an extra push or 2 with the dry pass Im very happy with this machine thus far and will update this if i find anything else out. the above is from only about one day of use. UPDATE: MAY2013 I have used this many times, in the high traffic areas its about 1 time every 3 weeks, then rest of the time is justs catch up before company comes over to knock out the pet dander in the house we have about 2500 sq feet of carpet and i can do all of it in about 1.5-2 hours, I have found if you just hold the trigger in a push down a path then pull back the same path, its still cleans 80% of what the above does, and you can get 100% if you just move slower. this floor is still very dry as long as you finish a path with a pull pass. It take 1.5-2 hours to dry and not get wet socks and 2.5-3.5 to dry where you feel with your hand its dry. IF you want an area to dry faster i just make one pass over the carpet to suck up more water (usually do this when it run out of clean water) if you put a fan on the damp area it will dry amazing fast. good luck and happy cleaning :P

We (wife & I) have owned this Big Green for a few weeks now, and I have used it three times. We owned Hoovers top of the line carpet cleaner for three years prior to this purchase. Here is a quick comparison of the Hoover to the Big Green: > The Hoover is less expen$ive. (You DO get what you pay for, though!) > The Hoover is lighter, making it easier for my wife to use. Its only good point. > Big Green picks up dirty water LOTS better than the Hoover. in a word, Big Green Sucks (in a GOOD way)! It was tedious to try and pick up all (er, most) of the water laid down for cleaning with the Hoover. This resulted in days of drying time. Not good. > The hoover has an independent cleaning solution tank (for a total of three tanks), which means you can lay down as much cleaner as you would like, and then use the clear, hot water to rinse. Big Green only has two tanks, the clean water tank (which you add cleaner to), and the dirty water tank which is where all the dirty water gets sucked into. > Big Green is much faster. Because the Hoover does not suck nearly as well as Big Green, you must go excruciatingly (painfully... agonizingly... I could go on...) slow with the Hoover to recover most of the dirty water. I can clean carpets in 1/4 the time with Big Green, compared to the Hoover, simply because it has better scrubbing action, and suction! > The reason we ended up buying a Big Green after only three years of Hoover ownership, was the roller brush drive belt was worn and about to break. I tried to buy the drive belt from Hoover, but they are out of stock. A Hoover Customer Service person told me I could not back-order the belt, and I should just try back in a month (unacceptable!). The local Hoover dealer told me the belt is no longer made (out of production), and suggested I file a warranty claim, and in his experience Hoover would simply replace the unit with a (similar) brand new one. So, lets sum up the Hoover problems: 1) Doesnt work too well in the first place (slow, and poor suction); 2) Cant order a simple replacement part; 3) Hoover lied to me about the availability / discontinued status of the drive belt. 4) We didnt feel good about contributing a perfectly functional carpet cleaner to the land-fill because of Hoovers big-corporation attitude towards streamlined profitability at the consumers expense (They dont stock parts). We donated the Hoover to Good Will. What I like about Big Green: It does a better job cleaning carpets. It is much faster at cleaning carpets. It leaves the carpet much drier, resulting in less than a day needed for the carpet to dry (typically dries in 12 hours). My tips for Big Green Users: 1) Carpet cleaning is a patience thing, and cannot be rushed. If your head is in rush mode, drop carpet cleaning and go do something else, until your head is in the game. 2) Go slow and steady. Avoid sloshing the dirty water in the dirty water tank. Bissels dirty water tank is a two-piece design, which does not seal as well as it should. If you jerk the machine around, while trying to go fast, or get around obstacles, it WILL leak out dirty water, leaving dirty water spots! Slow and steady wins the race. 3) I have been using Bissels Pet Pro Oxy Urine Eliminator formula. and it gives great results. With time, I will try other formulas, and report back. We have an older cat and white carpets (need I say more?), which is why we are big fans of any oxy type of cleaning formulas. 4) Bissell recommends two caps of formula added to a tank of hot water. I now use between a 1/2 - 1 cap of cleaner. It works just as well with less cleaner formula. I have found that too much formula leaves the carpet stiff. And... Too much cleaner left in the carpet makes it attract dirt faster. < Straight from the Hoover instruction manual. 5) I use hot tap water in the clean water tank (per Bissells instructions). We keep our hot water at 140°, at the tap. I have not experienced any problems (with Big Greens flow indicator) using 140° water. 5) I overlap my cleaning passes by 1/2 width. 6) Bissells instructions say to hold the spray trigger and go out and back (one wet pass), then release the trigger, and go out and back (one dry pass). I make one wet pass, and then two dry (vacuum only) passes. 7) Bissell instructs you to continue to make passes until the solution being pulled up appears clean. I cant tell the cleanliness of the water as it comes up, but I keep making passes (in the same area) until the carpet looks clean. 8) I now add a rinse pass. after completely cleaning the carpet, I now add clear hot water (NO cleaning solution added) to the clean water tank, and I make a rinse pass over the entire carpet The rinse pass has no (well... minimal) overlap, and I do one wet pass, followed by only one vacuum pass. The rinse goes pretty quick. If you think you did a good job cleaning the carpet with cleaning solution, wait until you see how dirty the water is from the rinse pass! Dirt never rests... Summary: Yes, Big Green is pricey, and heavy, and it has its little quirks (the dirty water tank can leak, IF you are not careful). So far, it cleans carpets better than the several carpet cleaners we have owned and rented. Would I buy it again? Yes. In a New York minute. Time is valuable to me. Even though it has its little idiosyncrasies, it is the fastest, best carpet cleaner I have ever used. Yes, you really do get what you pay for. Recommended!

Let me begin by saying that I am no expert when it comes to cleaning, but when my carpets reached a point of no return, I knew I needed a miracle. Enter the Bissell Big Green Professional Carpet Cleaner, a heavy-duty machine that promised to transform my dingy floors into a pristine oasis. Little did I know that this experience would turn into a comedy of errors that left me both astonished and laughing uncontrollably. Gather around, my friends, as I recount the tale of The Great Carpet Catastrophe. The Decision: It all started on a gloomy Saturday morning. The Assembly Fiasco: Unpacking the Bissell Big Green was like deciphering an ancient artifact. Every piece seemed to have its own mysterious purpose, and I found myself scratching my head in confusion. In my enthusiasm, I accidentally knocked over the bottle of soap, causing it to spill across the freshly cleaned carpet. Panic set in as I watched the soapy mess spread like a wildfire. I quickly switched off the machine, but the damage was done. Now I had a clean but incredibly foamy carpet, resembling a giant bubble bath. It was both frustrating and absurdly comical. I couldnt help but burst into laughter, accepting my fate as the clumsy carpet cleaner. The Epic Cleanup: With bubbles covering the carpet, I knew I had to act swiftly. Armed with a bucket and a mop, I dove headfirst into the sea of suds. As I battled the soapy tidal wave, my neighbors must have thought I had lost my mind. But amidst the chaos, a surprising realization hit me - the Bissell Big Green had not only deep-cleaned my carpet but also provided an excellent workout. Scrubbing vigorously, I discovered muscles I never knew existed. I chuckled at the unexpected silver lining while working tirelessly to restore my carpet to its former glory. The Happy Ending: After what felt like an eternity, I finally managed to clean up the soap spill fiasco. The carpet was pristine, the bubbles were gone, and I couldnt help but marvel at the power of the Bissell Big Green. It had transformed my carpets into soft, fresh havens. With a newfound appreciation for the machines capabilities and a heart full of laughter, I declared victory over the great carpet catastrophe. Conclusion: In the end, my experience with the Bissell Big Green Professional Carpet Cleaner was an adventure filled with unexpected twists and turns. From the initial assembly confusion to the soapy spill debacle, it was a journey that kept me on my toes and left me in stitches. Through it all, the Bissell Big Green proved to be a reliable and effective carpet cleaning companion, redeeming itself even after the hilarious mishaps. If youre looking for a machine that can tackle the toughest carpet challenges and provide some comic relief along the way, the Bissell Big Green Professional Carpet Cleaner is undoubtedly the one to choose.
