Arctic Silver 5 AS5-3.5G Thermal Paste

> 3 dayPremium compound for a premium price. The size is kind of misleadingly small -- in practice, unless youre constantly applying this stuff to Pentium 4s or high end FX chips, youll get upwards of ten uses from this little syringe. Thats definitely worth ten bucks to me. The temperature difference is nothing short of phenomenal to someone who doesnt know the difference between two compound formulas. The first thing I do when building a new machine now is get rid of the packed-in thermal compound and stick a bit of Arctic Silver 5 on there, it will make it much more fuss-free in the long run. IME the packed-in compound fails after a year or so, while one of my AS5 applications has been going strong for 5+ years.

> 3 dayMy first application was on a YLOD PS3 - thin layer on both RSX chips, put the system back together and still YLOD. Took it apart again and found that a fair quantity of the paste has already dried up (may just be that it was a thin layer). I reapplied the paste using pea sized dots and it seemed to work... but I am now a little skeptical about the long-term. Its strange though, I checked several websites that compared and contrasted dozens of different pastes and this one was always in the top 3 or 5. 4 stars because it might just be user error.

Greater than one weekIts Arctic Silver, easy to use, works great. Price is a bit expensive for the amount you get.

> 3 dayI used this on a P4 3.2GHz chip that replaced a cooler Celeron in an Ultra Small Form Factor Dell Optiplex 745. The arctic silver, applied in accordance with their instructions on the web, works great. No sign of overheating with this more heat-generating chip.
