Exactly 30 days and 1 week after purchasing, the hood began to blow out the day light bulbs that I placed in it for us. I used a 60w bulb as instructed. After 3 bulb replacements, and checking with the local pet store regarding the product, the hood is defective. I will not be able to replace this since it has been over 30 days since I purchased it. I will unfortunately have to replace the hood since the reptile I have must have this for its well being.

Fit perfect on my 12x12x18 25 watt glo bulb on a crested gecko in a 78-68 degree house

Great little hood for the 12x12x18. I like that you can put a bulb in up to 60 watts. Unable to go past 25 watts in my exoterra top

Working great and fits the top of my small 12inch width) Exo Terra terrarium perfectly. I also have Exo Terras hood. However, I have the hood that will not take anything higher than 25W bulb. The 25W bulb was not enough heat for hermit crabs. So I put the naturalistic hood on the back (as the power switch is located on its back) for the primary heat source, and the Exo Terra on the front (as this switch is located on the side) to be able to adjust the heat on colder days/ nights.

I really want to give this a better rating but there are key factors that just can’t be overlooked. This fixture is great for any bulb that doesn’t emit heat. You see where I’m going with this? They recommend bulbs that will fit in this fixture that are basking bulbs, night light bulbs, red heat bulbs etc. THIS FIXTURE MELTS with HEAT. Not a great combination. The only thing I use these for are plant growth bulbs. The Exo-Terra Reptile UVB 100, 13W Bulbs and similar products work well and do not melt the unit or the top of the cage. The pluses of this fixture are that it has a dual switch in the back so you can choose to have one side on or off or both on or off. The cord is decently long and it sits sturdily on top of the tank. Do not buy this if you are intending on using it for anything other that grow lights or viewing lighting. For those purposes only, there are much lower profile options out there but now I am stuck with these. I’ve learned my lesson.

I purchased my Zoo Med terrarium at a local pet store and was debating buying a clip on light or an actual hood like this one. Im SO glad I got this hood! It looks so much better than a clip on light would have and it works perfectly. It only has one light socket, so if you are looking for something with room for a day and night light, this isnt the hood for you. Its a great deal, and I would recommend it for a basic day light heating bulb.

Good for reptiles that need low levels of UVB like crested geckos. Fits perfectly on my 12x12x18 ExoTerra and 12x12x18 Zilla enclosures. But, I wouldnt buy this for desert species that need higher UVB levels to prevent metabolic bone disease(bearded dragons, leopard gecko) A fluorescent tube light would work better for them.
