Zoo Med Laboratories SZMHC2W Hermit Crab, 2-Pound, Sand White

I purchased this since we do not live near a pet store. I was very disappointed in this it grows a mold in the corners even though the sand is stirred and it is in a store bought habitat. Would not recommend this item.

Hermit crab owners: Please google/bing unsafe sand for hermit crabs or harmful sand for hermit crabs. Calcium sand is SUPER FINE (fine = pleasant for humans, BAD for crabs), and molds. Worse, though, is that this stuff hardens. Fine-Calcium sand killed one of my hermit crabs after it hardened and formed a concrete-like ball around her pinchers. She was my most active/playful crab, too. She was still for a while, and I knew she was due to molt, so I left her alone. Then the smell.... When I lifted her, she was dead due to her pinchers being basically glued together. Not sure how these companies have had so many complaints about this, and still continue to sell this sand without a disclaimer to NOT USE FOR CRABS or in really wet/humid environments.
