Only picks up frequencies that are well below the usual ranges used by first responders. Frequencies need to be manually entered into scanner. If you know which frequencies you want to listen to, makes sure the scanner can pick it up. Otherwise, the unit isnt very useful.

Way better on analog VHF and UHF Airbands than my Uniden SDS100.

The bearcat ac125 handheld ,well its ok its not bad i like pretty good except for ,the batterylife the batteries that came with it are cheep but maybe you can buy some duracell or energiser rechagable will be tour best bet its a good thing it comes with a charger ,and it a usb not a traditional 120amp cord but it will work ,and its a pain anoying to program the frequencies into the unit and its because you cant go fast its bit like texting on my phone if you go to fast it wont take it , and youll have to reenter the frequency .if you try to put more than probly 2 at a time you mite have to do it again so ok there ya go other than these issues i like it pretty good .oh and it does have a couple of interesting maybe useful features that some scanners dont have .that make it more usefull it will.tell you when there is a week signol.that you lock out to help prevent static so there ya go and have fun .

Some reviews on this radio bash it for being unable to listen in on local police department, etc. These users need to do more research. This is an excellent analog receiver, NOT A DIGITAL RECEIVER. Check your local law enforcement radio frequencies and equipment as digital transmissions cannot be picked up by this radio. For where I live this is not an issue. I can hear my local law enforcement clearly and was easy to find their frequencies online. Another invalid complain many users had was how difficult it is to program and use the radio. Seriously, read the manual. There are three different scanning modes, not including Close Call or any of the Priority Scanning functions. I read the manual once and understood their operation and function. I mostly Hold on a single channel but occasionally scan a few banks I programmed from my computer with the included USB cable. Again, follow the directions that came with the radio and you can easily program the radio from a PC. Others have said that the program is similar to Excel, and they are not wrong. Its very simple, it shows you the banks you can program you just fill in the form. My only complaint is the battery life. One one hand, the receiver is relatively compact as it only takes 2 x AA batteries. As a result though, I am averaging about 4 and half hours of listening time before the low battery warning. I wish they would make the receiver a little bigger to accommodate a larger amount of batteries. In summary, I like this scanner a lot. Its relatively small, light, picks up my local frequencies quite clearly, and has decent listening times. Research which frequencies you will want to be listening to to avoid disappointment. I would recommend this to someone as a first time purchase of a police scanner.

This seems to be a very good scanner, but there is quite a steep learning curve. You do not just turn it on and start scanning. The radio requires extensive set up and programming before use which is rather difficult to understand for a novice like me. All of the frequencies and other specifics for what you want to listen to must be entered into the devices memory, which means you must know those things before you start. Luckily many of these are available online. The owners manual is not terribly well written and somewhat confusing. Hint: go to the Uniden web site and download the USB drivers and programming software. It is vastly easier than programming the scanner directly. I bought the scanner primarily to monitor aircraft traffic and it works amazingly well. I can hear the local air traffic control tower from my home which is over 15 miles away! Do your research before buying. Make sure what you want to listen to is even accessible. For example, many local police, fire and other frequencies are now encrypted or carried over proprietary networks which are not accessible to the public.

This is my first venture into scanning, so I didnt want to spend to much out of the chute. After reading many reviews here this seemed a safe bet. This is a durable unit with a clear readable screen and wait for it...........fairly darn easy to use. Well, my experience with it was fairly easy. Dont think for a minute if you have never used a scanner you are going to popped the batteries in and turn it on an be amazed, there is some leg work up front. Other reviews here warned me the manual would be useless, cant confirm this as I never bothered to open the manual. Went right to the Uniden website for the programming software and the usb driver. Here is where things got a little rough, the programming software was a breeze to install, when I plugged my scanner into the usb port I never got a driver prompt screen. Soooooo, some google searches and youtube searches and I managed to directly drop the driver ini file in the right spot. Still could not connect the programming software to the unit, another search and I found under the tools menu in the software a button for device manager and made the connection. A little convoluted, but not overly bad if you are a tad computer savvy. Found all my local frequencies on the radioreference site, started filling int he columns on the software and sent them to the scanner. Hit the scan button and I was off to the races. Volume is ample, locking out is quick and easy if needed. If you want to manually program this unit without the software, plenty of helpful people on youtube have posted some great tutorials. This has been a very positive first experience with a very nice unit, I would recommend to anyone interested in dabbling.

YouTube setup helped- but it was still difficult to set up, in our rural area we have quite a bit of static I purchased a “better antenna but really didn’t help”.

This radio has been great. I have been studying for my FAA 107 Certification and purchased this radio so I can get used to monitoring flight traffic in the area. I have a private airport near by and this radio helps me know when aircraft are coming in and when there are ski divers close by. So useful. The setup is not hard but yo do need to read the manual. We are actually about 20 miles from the private airport and I can listen to the tower from here. I also have our community security programmed in so I can catch anything of concern here. The only upgrade i hope to see in future models is a usbc charging port. I will have to carry an extra cable to charge this radio. If this review helped you in any way please let me know below. Bought a used one here on Amazon. Came with everything that would normally be inside the box, except they included the wrong kind of charging cable. I had an extra, so it was no big deal. It took me a few hours if messing with the scanner, watching YouTube videos and skimming the instructions to totally understand how it works. I went from having no idea what I was doing, to being able to use all its features in just a few days. Bummer that my local PD went digital, but I can still pick up some emergency services sometimes, government channels and of course railroad chatter. The range is a little more weak than I thought, but for an extra $20-40 you can get some real good antennas to improve that.
