TASCAM US122 Audio/MIDI Interface with Free Software

> 3 dayI bought this in 2004 to do some home recording. I ended up using it as an audio/midi interface with VB3 to replace my hammond organ and leslie for live gigs. Ive played out a few hundred times, beat the hell out of it, had bar patrons spill beer on it, and it still works fine - 5 years playing in bands every weekend with no issues - the original usb cable even still works. Works great with XP, the Vista drivers work well on windows 7. I have never once had it crash on the job during a live performance. Occasionally it will crash at home when Im experimenting with different latency and bit-rate settings, but it works quite well and has been more stable than other interfaces Ive played with. The inputs are quiet for recording, but are noticeably noisy when direct monitoring (dont try to use the audio inputs live on the job). All in all these are great units for people running windows 7 or windows XP, and considering how cheap they are these days there is no reason you shouldnt consider using one. Latency is a non-issue if you have a decent computer and play with the settings (I use mine as a live interface for playing hammond organ on stage with rock bands - its plenty quick!) Built like a tank and never let me down once. I might pick up another one before they become totally obsolete as I have no intention of upgrading to windows 8 any time soon.
