I bought this in 2004 to do some home recording. I ended up using it as an audio/midi interface with VB3 to replace my hammond organ and leslie for live gigs. Ive played out a few hundred times, beat the hell out of it, had bar patrons spill beer on it, and it still works fine - 5 years playing in bands every weekend with no issues - the original usb cable even still works. Works great with XP, the Vista drivers work well on windows 7. I have never once had it crash on the job during a live performance. Occasionally it will crash at home when Im experimenting with different latency and bit-rate settings, but it works quite well and has been more stable than other interfaces Ive played with. The inputs are quiet for recording, but are noticeably noisy when direct monitoring (dont try to use the audio inputs live on the job). All in all these are great units for people running windows 7 or windows XP, and considering how cheap they are these days there is no reason you shouldnt consider using one. Latency is a non-issue if you have a decent computer and play with the settings (I use mine as a live interface for playing hammond organ on stage with rock bands - its plenty quick!) Built like a tank and never let me down once. I might pick up another one before they become totally obsolete as I have no intention of upgrading to windows 8 any time soon.

When I heard about this item, I thought it would great for voice acting for animation. When I purchased this item, I didnt know it was obsolete and the software with it... but I found a way to work around that obstacle until I buy a more up to date model for my PC...

This review is to warn people that this device is NOT 64-bit compatible, and TASCAM has discontinued support for this model. IMHO, it **was** a great piece of kit and I used it happily for years. But... only if you run a 32 bit OS..... However, my phone doesnt even run 32 bit. ONLY buy this if you have a steam powered antique machine, otherwise steer clear. I find it appalling that Amazon even offers this since it is nearly completely obsolete.

Just wish the latency was a bit lower when using multitracks with effects. Good for what I use it for though...

I really like this piece of equipment and I have used it for years. The one star is for their customer contempt. When trying to install the Mac OSX driver on my new machine it came up saying that is was broken. To make a long story short I have been waiting for 8 days for a response, received no help, not been able to talk to a live person, got blocked emails in the automated responses from their office with no chance to answer. After finding a phone number they had an answering machine there. They did take their time to put my email on their sales email and I already received the first product offers. This is the kind of stuff that ruin companies brands and cuts off customer loyalty, two things today that you need to make an extra effort to look after.

For the price (especially now on the used market --- I got mine for $30), this thing cant be beat. Its built like a tank, the knobs feel great, its quiet, and it installed on my XP machine with no issues at all. I was using it in Reaper within ten minutes from unboxing. Awesome!

Bought new in 2004 and had it on a windows XP computer recorded 1 song. Just dusted off. Teac Corp. still has drivers under legacy on their web site and tech support help on phone still humans will help. Driver is available for vista and XP 3.4 version. Make sure you choose speakers as us122. You will also need the CubaseLe program that came with it. You will need to select asios input device to us 122. After that youre ready. Dont buy without Cubase Le and activation key as this program will work with even your computer Mike input. Also dont buy if you dont have a computer running on vista or XP as these are the most recent supported before product was discontinued. My grandson has just overdubbed himself 8 times and is exploring other effects...

Paid 130 for this in 2003. It is still running today. No support for Ubuntu anymore.
