Greater than one weekThe one I got from Amazon last month already had the latest firmware installed. If you are putting it in PS5, if you are seeing more than 6,000 MB/sec in the speed test you are good, you got latest FW. If you are seeing least than 6,000, you need to update, which can be done with an external Thunderbolt enclosure (not USB-C) if you dont have a desktop.

> 3 dayI bought this unit brand new through Amazon in late July and the unit is completely dead and undetectable on my system. At first I thought that the primary PCI 4.0 M.2 NVME slot on my motherboard was failing so I put it in the secondary PCI 3.0 slot but when that also did not work I put it into another brand new computer I had assembled for a friend and still the drive was not detected in the BIOS Boot Manager. To be clear, the drive worked perfectly fine before this and was lightly used as a gaming PC. I only had a few programs and games downloaded on the drive. I couldn’t imagine more than 10TBW was put on the drive. For posterity, the manufacture date for this Unit is May of 2022 and was made in Vietnam.

Greater than one weekYeah, yeah, yeah. Everybody has the fastest NVME. Yeah...well THIS bad boy moves data like crazy....Copying 600gb and it never dropped below 500mb a second. What would normally take so long you go eat breakfast and come back to see how far its gone....this was done in 5 minutes!!! I for sure would buy this again!!!!

Greater than one weekQuick warning, you may need to buy M.2 SSD screws if you plan to put it in your PC. At least I needed it in my B550. Also, you should download Samsung Magician. If you dont update the firmware for your SSD, the lifespan could be cut in half.

> 3 dayFor anyone considering this for a PS5, Id highly recommend buying it with a heat sink. Sure, it is more expensive but in the long run with the PS5, it is better to go with the heatsink because, as far as I know of, the bay where you put it in, does not have airflow so temps are a concern.

Greater than one weekThis is my second 980. I have one from about launch time in my wife’s Ryzen-based laptop and this one, installed around 12/14/2022 in a Core i5 13600 system. They generally run around 6.9 gigs a second read and 5.4 gigs per second write, which is plenty fast for whatever you’d throw at it.

> 3 dayDo yourself a favor and download the Samsung Magician software first thing and ensure the firmware is up to date before using it. I lost quite a few large files due to unreadable sectors and CRC errors. I ran a full diagnostic scan in Magician and it identified many bad LBAs, took upwards of 10-11 hours to finish when it should only take 3-4. So I updated the firmware and then low level erased every mapped address space block using gparted live, then reinstalled Windows and files from backup. Kind of disappointing given the price paid when I bought it, but hopefully the latest firmware will be more reliable. After all that, at least Magician doesnt show any bad LBAs anymore for the time being.
