They are nylon bushes with a 1/4 hex shank. They work the same as every other nylon brush I have ever used. I do like the 1/4 hex shank vs. just a round shaft. That will keep it from spinning in the drill.

This is a great assortment of abrasive nylon brushes and wheels for removing paint or rust from a wide variety of objects using your corded or cordless drill. They arent as aggressive as a wire brush but that can be a good thing when working with more delicate objects youre trying to clean up. They use a common ¼ hex shank and have worked great so far on a couple of rust removal projects I had.

Set of three styles, each with 3 different bristle hardness. From the look and feel, they should last a while, far longer than some others I have used. Cleaner than sanding and just as effective for prepping for painting. Quite a bargain vs buying them separately from the local big box.

I used these in a drill press to clean off a putty knife and an aluminum strap. They work well and the hex shanks fit securely in the chuck. I wouldnt mind if they had round shanks that would fit in a die grinder. They come in 3 sizes / types and 3 grits so they have a lot of uses. I found the grey brushes to be the course grit, red was medium and blue was fine. You can see the difference in the bristle size also. They held together well and did a good job of removing rust. At about $2.50 each they are a fair deal. They worked well and I recommend them.

I bought the 9 pack not because I wanted all 9, but because I wanted all the sizes. I bought two kinds of cordless drill wire brushes to strip the paint and rust from a water fountain. Wire brushes and wheels have a couple of problems worth noting: 1. They can break/shed bits of metal wire (which could lodge in your skin or eyes). 2. It turns out wire brushes are not as effective at removing rust or paint in part because they arent graded by grit! In part because the wire wheel can only remove what the tips of the wire touch. These nylon wheels with embedded grit come in 3 grits: 80, 120, and 220. I had a 1.25 gap I needed to remove the flaking paint and rust from and the narrow tipped items worked VERY well for that. One reason, of course is that it fit. But the other reason, is that the removal can occur not only at the tip, but also along the entire shaft of the bristle! That feature (using the sides of the bristles) made it possible to strip the rust and paint from parts of my piece that would have been impossible to get to otherwise. And the rust and paint removal was far more effective than any of the wire brushes I tried to use. Lastly, because its nylon and an abrasive, whatever is shed by the brush is less likely to rust. Consider, for example, stripping rust of a grill grate. Ive used a manual wire brush, and a power driven wire wheel, and then discovered bits of shed brush remained on the grate that then contacted/impregnated what I was cooking. Hamburger with a side order of metal shavings anyone? If I do need to resort to using using these abrasive brushes on a grill, I finish up with a nylon-only brush and damp rag to knock of any remaining dust. Finally, I also used a mesh style 80 grit on my orbital sander to try to remove rust and paint... even though they claim to last 10x longer than abrasive disks, they didnt go very far before they stopped being effect whereas these brushes apparently will continue to work until there is no bristle left.

Very cool brushing tools that can fit for variety of jobs because of difference sizes. The Nylon strings are strong, to my surprise. I use them to brush the rust of my steel pipe, bike, scooter, etc.

Very nice brushes that work just as they should. Comes with a very nice assortment so that you have the size and abrasive you need. All fit in a standard drill perfectly.

This set of useful sanding tools contains brushes of three different sizes and three different roughnesses. These robust brushes are made of twisted steel wire coated with different colored nylon and abrasive grit. In normal restoration, work is started with the largest and roughest tool that is applicable and proceeds to the finer and smaller tool to clean up scratches made earlier. Abrasive roughness is graded on a scale of the screen mesh that would pass the stated grit. Coarse construction sand is 40 grit and auto repair finish is created with 400 grit. The normal order of usage of these tools would be grey brush, 80 grit, red brush, 120 grit followed by blue brush 240 grit. In practice these brushes cut more aggressively than labeled because the bristle tips have fine steel wire projecting from the ends of the plastic covering. As the plastic wears off, the effective grit approaches single digits. The hex shaft is particularly handy as it fits into flex shaft tools. The hex shaft allows counter clockwise rotation without loosening the chuck. I plan to continue using these brushes for restoration of steel auto and boat parts. Highly recommended.

I purchased these to sand the dirt and soft wood fibers off some live edge Maple for a vanity I am making. The bark was stripped and I wanted something that would keep the original contours. The red (100 grit) works well and did a great job. Both the Gray and Blue deposited something on the wood that darkened it. Im sure they will work well on steel or something else. Good value.

I often have to “refurbish” things around the house because living in Florida is no joke with the salt water/humidity. These things have done wonders with tools, outdoor metal objects, and anything you put them to use with. At this price I expected a few nylon pieces flying off…nope, all kept intact to the piece. Even taking off mildew from a piece of wood was easy. This is a very nice set to my collection of tools to use for my needs,.
