Freud 16-520: 3/4 (dia.) Mortising Bit with 1/2 shank, 2-3/32 overall length

Cuts beautifully clean and flat mortices for hinges. I just wish the bearing was the same diameter as the cutters, to make using a template easier (you have to allow for the slightly larger bearing size). A valuable addition to my router bit collection.

The bit itself appeared cuts easily and appeared well made, but the bearing seized within a few minutes...or might have been from start. Alas, I failed to check before using. Granted i was mortising in white oak, but took shallow passes (less than 1/4), cleaned between each pass... And no, the bit is not inserted too deeply into the collet. I have been using a much smaller bit on same project....from a much less respected manufacturer, and its performed just fine.... Though much more time consuming. I have several freud bits/blades. Until now, Ive had great luck. Ill have to return this one.

I got this for plywood rabbit joints.. This bit makes the rabbit very tight indeed. Very sharp and smooth cut.

Bought this to flatten cutting boards after glue ups. In short, it works great leaving a very smooth surface. I was a little concerned with the 1/4” shank vs 1/2” but my router only accepts 1/4”. Holding up fine so far.

Wired that I would be prompted to use sheerness thickness and warmth in a router bit review, but here goes... I gave it one star for sheerness because its completely opaque( its a router bit). Regarding the thickness, I gave it 3 stars since it seems appropriately thick for a router bit. Gave three stars for warmth due to the fact that its a metal bit it takes on the temperature around it when not in use. Its a good router bit but, I would look elsewhere for sheerness thickness and warmth.

Worked great. I think I will buy another but with the longer cutting surface

This thing was great! It went through wood like crazy! Just remember, patients. I have seen others complain about it bending. Its a 1/4 shaft! You have to take it easy or of course it will bend.
