I got two, and one seems to work fine, but the other started smoking as soon as I plugged it in with a 50w bulb, and continued to do so until I unplugged it. Was really counting on these for warning my leopard geckos...

Over heats will not hold lamp up even when tightned.5 in is terrible.i own several larger that are great Did I get a lemon

Used this for about a year for my red eared slider as his basking light. I noticed that the light didnt want to turn on well the past month, but I assumed it was the cheap bulbs I was using. This morning, my smoke alarm went off right after I noticed the lights in my office dim for a second. I went upstairs and turned off the alarm, only to notice that the light in the turtle tanks was off. I grabbed it to jiggle the bulb, and noticed scorch marks on the inside of the hood. then, the socket unscrewed instead of the bulb and completely came apart in my hands! the inside of the socket was completely charred and the wires were completely scorched and broken! I have used a ton of clamp lamps in my day and NEVER has one, not even the super cheap ones, had this kind of issue! It seems the wires inside got so twisted up and the insulation must have come off so they can touch. Absolutely WORST case scenario for a light bulb socket! I HIGHLY recommend taking yours apart and fixing it to make sure it doesnt catch fire if you have one already or avoiding this fixture like the plague and finding a better brand that wont try to burn down your house...

Ive had the lamp since December 2017 and last week it completely shorted out and shattered the bulb into my turtles 75 gallon aquarium. It was a mess trying to clean the glass out of the big aquarium and I worry that the turtle might be affected by glass shards I didnt get :(
