15-11-2024My 850 watt PS went on the fritz about 6 weeks ago, it would suddenly power off and back on. The computer with be under a load with a game and the power would suddenly die and come back on, rebooting the machine. It was sort of like getting a blue screen without a blue screen. Eventually it started really going crazy like losing power, then flapping on and off rapidly until I pulled the plug. I realized that it wasnt the motherboard, or bad drivers or anything like that. I rebuild the machine every 3 years or so, but I hadnt replaced the power supply in ten years, it was finally time. I like the modular connectors, although some of them were really tight getting them on the SSDs, which are hard to reach inside the case. Once I put it back together, Ive had no trouble with power since, so the old PS was definitely the problem (a Corsair 850W from about 2010).

Greater than one weekAs I run 4x HDD and 2xDVD ROM, its difficult to configure the SATA cables as each comprises three plugs, daisy-chained. As the input connectors for the HDDs and ROMs are orientated 90% apart, I could not easily connect the 4th HDD and ROMS together. My previous PSU featured 4xSATA on each SATA output. A solution, of course, would be a SATA power extension to allow it to reach, but this should not be required. Just make the cables and distances between the SATA plugs longer.

> 3 dayIve been with EVGA for quite a bit now, but this will be my last purchase from the company. I bought the 850w G5 to replace my 650w G2. Install was straight forward, cable quality was nice (Though, not sure why they didnt include a 6 pin VGA cable with their PSUs even though a majority of their cards are 8PIN + 6PIN. Like, they have an 8 pin with detachable 2 pin, but I dont want it just hanging in my case.)

> 3 dayIt was the most affordable psu I could find at the time that didnt come from a Janky brand. I was basically doing a semi budget build, turned out okay. Had a little hiccup with it not starting. Removed the extension cables and it worked. If you can get this cheaper than $150 I would recommend it.

> 3 dayRuns good, no issue installing and powers everything. The PSU feels like good quality but dear lord the noise is loud and is gradually becoming annoying not a quiet PSU my $80 dollar 700W PSU was quiet never heard it I replaced it with this. This thing..it’s loud.

> 3 dayThis may have been this particular item. But no matter what, ECO mode on or off, the fan ramps up to 100% soon as theres a game window open. For days I thought it was my case fans but upon further inspection, lo and behold its the power supply. Toms hardware seem to reviewed EVGA SuperNova G5 and came to the same conclusion its pretty much one of the loudest PSUs out there. Needless to say I returned it and hope you guys dont make the same mistake I did.
