This projector has a lot going for it, and some drawbacks as well. Lets jump right in: Brightness: Very bright. The color brightness is just as bright as the whites since its a 3 chip projector. DLPs cant make that same claim, though some come close (RGBRGB models). Contrast: Sub-par, even for the under $1,000 category. DLP projectors will beat this one every time with black levels and contrast. Positioning: This projector gives you both vertical and horizontal keystone for ease of setup, though using this will make the image less sharp since its not using all of the pixels when the keystone is used. Most people wont notice, however. Pixel fill: The lines between the pixels are the thickest and most noticeable on 3LCD projectors. In other words, on DLP and LCoS projectors, you sit slightly closer to the screen without seeing pixel structure. Colors: Colors are fantastic, and have a lot of pop to them. 3LCD projectors excel with bright colors. Animated films look great! Noise: In eco-mode, its not very noticeable. In normal mode, youll notice it on quiet movie scenes for sure. Extra features: This projector has some features not typically found on entry level models. These include frame interpolation (smooth motion for sports, etc) and detail enhancement, which makes images appear sharper using special video processing. While it may seem a lot of my review was negative, this is a really good choice for an entry level projector. For those who havent seen better blacks on a projected image, they probably wont even notice the not-so-great blacks, but will be amazed at the huge, colorful, full HD image on their wall or screen. Another plus is that, unlike other lower end (and lower resolution) Epson models, this has an audio out port for those who take advantage of the portability of this projector and take it outside or to a friends house for movie night. I believe if Epson produced a projector like this one, but had blacks as good as the 8350 (not the best, but very respectable), they would overcome the only serious weakness of this model and sales would higher than Im sure they are now. Regardless, this a solid choice for those looking to get in on the big screen action at home.

I purchased this almost 1.5 year ago. just few things that people may not like: I couldnt make it play movies from memory stick (USB), only pics. probably I was doing something wrong. I am just using HDMI inputs for my SatTV and for media player, and it works fine. I think it has a little noisy cooler, I did not use any other projector in this area (it is very quiet here) so I dont have anything to compare with. it is installed outdoor and therefore built-in speakers are not sufficient. I would recommend using separate speakers if you want to fully enjoy the movie. But when it comes to core functions of this projector - it does its job! Outstanding picture quality, amazing colors, the details of the picture are so clean and sharp even with 5 meter distance. 5 stars!

With this purchase, one thing I have learnt is to always purchase products from trusted brands. My new Epson Home Cinema LCD projector is an amazing device, perfect for my basement home theater. The picture quality is impeccable, 35000:1 contrast ratio provides a very good rendition of black levels. 2200 lumens is just enough for my needs. Could not have found a better projector at this price. I am extremely happy with this purchase. The Good: Image quality, color rendition, brightness levels are perfect. 35000:1 contrast ratio Decent inbuilt speakers. Quieter than many other projectors I have seen 2 HDMI ports Light and Small Simple IR Remote The Bad: (which is not so bad) No optical audio port slight vibration (which is probably a normal characteristic of projectors, but I have seen Epsons that just do not vibrate - of course they are in a higher price band) All in all I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to buy an inexpensive projector for their home theater. Good buy! Tip: Wait for a Thanksgiving deal to buy this item, I bought mine for $499

Very Crisp colors and detailed picture even on a sunny room movies and shows look amazing, my only concern seems to be the software at times buggy, when turning on I hear the fan noise but not picture is displayed, I use the remote to change source or display menu and no response I have to resort in to unplug the device and plug in to make it work again, I contacted Epson customer service I have a case number Im waiting for a software update to correct this but nothing so far, Ill try to contact them again to see if they help me solve and update on the outcome

Im really enjoying having the image size of a projector, such a step up from the 60 TV. Currently have it set up with a 120 screen. Im really impressed with the image quality, but only use it in the dark, so I cant comment on the performance in normally or even dim lit rooms. Also only using it for movies, even though Im a casual gamer. The fan is a bit noisier than Id like, but when watching a movie I dont notice it except during quiet parts. Its also currently just sitting on a table behind the viewer temporarily till its ceiling mounted. So I dont expect it to be a an issue at that point.

I was in the market for a project for under $1000 and this one was constantly rated at the top of the charts. I have a dedicated room so I can control the light fairly well and was blown away upon turning it on. The quality and color is great and even in eco mode has plenty of light to show a movie with moderate ambient light. The project has vertical as well as horizontal keystone correct which helps mounting it as it doesnt have to be perfect. I watched a couple of movies now and love every single one. I have a 144in screen at 15ft back. While the projector looked good on my wall paired with the Carls ProWhite I was blown away. The colors pop and the contrast looks good. Im sure the contrast would look better on a higher end projector but its left me nothing to complain about.

Stopped working after an 1hr. I was impressed with the picture quality until it stopped displaying video, audio carried on for a few seconds then the status light(blue) and Lamp light(amber) started flashing. Epson state the unit is effectively DOA. Their RMA process will charge your card the equivalent of another projector, hopefully Amazon returns process will be smoother. Update The Amazon returns process is always a breeze! I have had the replacement projector for several weeks and could not be happier. Excellent colors and picture quality not too far off from OLED. Great results even in a room with some light coming in via blinds. I havent mounted it and dont have a screen, walls a gray and I can move it room to room until I ever decide where to mount it permanently. A definite recommendation but I would do a burn in for several hours to make sure you dont get a lemon

Despite all the review about the the lamp. We purchased our project in 2017 and out lamp replacement warning flashed late 2022. We’ve had no issues this far with this projector. The primary use is home theater, day and night, but we’ve enjoyed it outdoors as well. We’ve even watch 3D movies on it. Only con was when hooking up the sound shakers due to the audio cord. We tried multiple adapters but it was just easier and less cord to hook it up to the sound bar. We still Highly recommend this projector

This projector is ok. Its not the best, but its not the worst either. For a sub $1000 projector it is pretty good. Why only 3 stars? The projector has a manual lens cover for starters. If youre mounting this higher up, youll need a stool to reach for it every time. A slight annoyance, not a huge deal breaker though. The particular unit I received had very severe color separation from the lcds not being matted together perfectly. I ran all sorts of tests as you can see in the photos. I believe this is outside what can be considered tolerable. Maybe it was a manufacturing defect, but I was disappointed. I am very sensitive to it, which is also why I opted for the LCD vs DLP projectors. The unit is bright, but that also comes with a sacrifice... noise. When you have it set to bright, its LOUD! On the other brightness settings the fans really quiet down and I found it to be bright enough even during the day time. Ive had a PLV-Z4 for 8 years and its been a great projector. Ill be looking at upping my price and testing out the 5030 soon. Overall, this is a decent little guy, but I found too many cons to outweigh the pros for my particular set up.

Best projector for the price right now. I like it better than the BenQ I recently owned (1075) in 9 out of 10 scenarios (brightness, latency/gaming, frame interpolation, lamp cost, menu options, contrast, no rainbow effect, cost, image enhancement, lamp life). The only thing it doesnt appear to do quite as well is black levels. But I doubt most people would be able to pick out the difference. And theyll definitely notice the speed, brightness, and frame interpolation if they watch sports, or dont have a dark room. And the fact that they were the first to move many high end features from much more expensive projectors down into this price range is commendable. If this had a motorized lens, with lens memory, I could sell dozens of these to folks looking to replace their aging home theater projectors. Epson did a really nice job with this one.

The Home Cinema 2040 projector brings the big screen home, delivering Full HD 1080p entertainment. This portable performer delivers up to 35,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, advanced image processing, plus 2200 lumens of color brightness and 2200 lumens of white brightness (2). Enjoy movies, games and more with two HDMI ports and MHL (3) connectivity. Connect your Blu-ray Disc player, gaming console or streaming device, and project up to 300" virtually anywhere. A built-in speaker and convenient setup tools mean you can enjoy HD content out of the box.
