There is a high pitch sound similar to tinnitus when the speakers get an input. Its quiet enough to be overcome by whatever youre listening to but loud enough to be too annoying for me.

I purchased this so that I could listen to music, audiobooks, and podcast While working out at the gym. It does a good job canceling out the ambient noises. I can listen to my choice of media with absolutely no problem. It also receives telephone calls that I receive while at the gym.
