I love these things! No hammer needed, keep it in your apron or pocket, pull it out to set nails quickly without having to carry a hammer on odd jobs. Not having to use a hammer with these is the primary advantage, but also, it is good in a tight or delicate spaces when missing the punch, or misjudging the strength with which to hit the punch could be disastrous. This product will save you from both short-comings. Some contractors think they are silly or a gimmick, but they really do work! You hold one end of the punch directly onto the nail head, pull out the other end then let go; a direct hit every time! Ive used other brands of these before and these seem to be totally up to par with those ones, and maybe even better! These are nickel coated, so I think they are going to resist rust better than the ones Ive used in the past. This set has the ideal array of nose & tip styles to handle most nail setting tasks from start to finish on a house construction site. I really like the straight hinge punch tip, its very multipurpose and can reach deep down to set nails without risk of widening the hole. This is a great set to have on hand, even if you already have traditional nail sets (they each have their advantages)!

I liked the concept of this style of nail set in theory would be slightly more comfortable and efficeint than the traditional style but in reality i find it to be quite the opposite. Less comfortable to use in the hand and functions the same or less efficently than your traditional nail set.

I ordered this Punch Set with low expectations since it just didnt look like it would have the power to get the job done. I am pleased to report that they do actually work! I was able to remove a stubborn door hinge pin with several cycles of the device without having to resort to a hammer and nail. I also had success with setting a small finishing nail. The ability to punch a drill set point in metal was less successful but it did still make a small indention. If you need a heavy-duty setting tool this may not work for you but for lightweight work its great.

These are awesome to say the least. They wont do for putting a deck together, but for proud trim nails, door pins, and general purposes the nail sets work great. The aggressive cuts on the ends give great grip on the tool while you pull back the spring and theres no real impact on your fingers when you use it. Everything works as it should, and as long as you understand its limitations you wont be disappointed by these. They arent going to replace a hammer entirely, but they were made for countersinking and precise work which they do extremely well.

Positives: Priced affordably enough that even a casual DIYer should get one. The nail set does a decent job setting small nails and staying on the head. The hinge pin driver also does a pretty good job of knocking the door hinge pins loose. This is a well priced and functional set for most people’s toolbox. Less positive/things to consider:I also own a nail set/hinge pin driver made by Ares. There is a clear difference in the two sets. Aside from the slight difference in length, (see second picture) the Ares set feels noticeably heavier. Obviously, in a spring punch set, extra weight is extra force on impact. For most people, probably not a big deal, but if you are doing it all day, one strike is better than two. The slightly longer length also make the Ares a little easier to handle, but again, only significant if you use it a lot. The second thing I was less than thrilled with was the actual design of the grooves. They are milled out straight grooves, which means you are pulling on and sliding a fairly rigid edge when you pull and release against those grooves, they aren’t rounded or smoothed out at all. This makes for a good gripping edge, but it could get rather abrasive in a hurry on your finger pads if you have to use them for an extended period of time. Takeaway: Very decent set for most DIYer toolboxes. Not as heavy or refined as some others (Ares), but at 1/3 the price, they are a much more budget friendly option for most people, and still do the job just fine.

I have a set of various sized nail setters that have seen a lot of use over the years, but have never seen a spring-loaded setter until I saw this set. At first, I decided against ordering it... just couldn’t see how it would work... but decided to give it a chance. After playing around with it for a while, it won’t replace my old school nail setters, but there are applications where this is a very handy tool to have on hand. It does deliver more force than I expected. Additionally, you get the hinge pin removal tool, which actually does a decent job and reduces the risk of damaging a door with an errant hammer tap. For the price, there is no excuse for not adding this to your tool kit.
