> 3 dayIve watched this many times. I have mostly noted its humor, but when I recently re-watched it I was much more aware of how much sadness is also captured in this film. For both reasons, it is very well done.

01-11-2024This is one of my favorite feel-good films with nostalgic quips of ethnic New York families. Silvermans teenager besotted with the female form is so typical of male puberty and adds another hilarious touch to the already saturated comedy. This film is a prize!

Greater than one weekNeil Simon was very astute in his observations when writing this book. The experiences of a nieve young fellows army induction and training in the final months of WWII. I can readily relate to his sudden exposure to the real world and finding it necessary to grow up fast!. This movie is not really for mothers and grandmothers, but fathers and brothers should find it interesting.

> 3 dayI have watched Brighton Beach Memoirs many times on tv. Takes place during WWII. It takes us back to the times when earning a living was hard and in this case even harder for the Jerome family because a sister-in-law and her two daughters lived with the Jeromes because she was a widow. The antics of Eugene, the younger Jermone son, are comical. The father works at a job cutting out raincoats and selling party favors. Then he loses both jobs and depends on the older brother Stanley to help out but Stanley has lost his job until he makes a written apology to his boss. Then the father has a heart attack but survives. The mother is constantly sending Eugene to the store for small purchases such as one stick of butter or one pound of sugar. Eugene makes his funny comments which could be considered backtalk but its done in a funny way. The older son repairs the radio so the dad can listen to the news because he is fearful of his relatives making it out of Poland safely. In the end a lot of the problems are worked out and everyone is happy because the relatives are coming to New York and they start making plans about where everyone will sleep. Bob Dishy,Blythe Danner,Judith Ivey, Jonathan Silverman are the actors I most remember but all the actors involved did a really good job. I would recommend this movie. Also this movie is close captioned which was very important for me.

> 3 dayGrowing up in Brooklyn in the 1930s. A teenaged boys anxiety to get older makes a great story. Comedy, and touching moments make this a good one. Great movie by Neil Simon.
