It does the job, but there is virtually no padding in it. Still, it gives some space around the hard drive, so perhaps that is enough. It is well made and should last. Still--if AmazonBasics reads our reviews, it would not hurt for them to add a bit more of a padded liner to it. Hard case with padded lining is the best of both worlds (or three worlds, if its hard case, padded, and cheap!).

Great case for my external hard drive

I have a soft cover case for my WD, but really like this hard case, as does my wife, for whom it was purchased. Less chance of damaged, room inside for cables, etc.

Great inexpensive case that adds some basic protection for your WD My Passport drive. It is rigid and has a little bit of padding, but I wouldnt want to sit on it. Good for protecting your drive before tossing it into a backpack or similar. Includes a pocket to store the drives USB 3.0 cable, and you could probably stuff another USB cable or two in there as well.
