Uniden Bearcat 980 40-Channel SSB CB Radio with 7-Color Digital Display

Been into radio for many years. This CB is very impressive. Can be used nicely for mobile or base.

Save your money if you want to buy a CB radio and just buy an inexpensive Cobra or Midland. I wish I hadnt thrown away my old really cheap Cobra 19 that was really inexpensive. That cheap radio was ten times a better radio than this Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB. In order to hear any talk on CB with this radio I have to be within 1/4 mile of anyone. I have used it in two vehicles and two different antennas and this radio is about useless. The radio now sits on the rear floor of my car not even hooked up. SSB I have never heard any talk on it. I have to say this radio has got to be the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. If I could sell it for $50 it would be sold.

I love this radio gives seven different color options for the display which is different. And it really gets out!

decent little radios for the price but if you have problems which I did the radio just DIED, they will leave you hanging why? the address in the manual to send the radio in for repair is not current. so instead of UNIDEN forwarding your package to the new facility? NOPE they ship it back to you.. and that is where they leave it.. YOU have to LOOK UP the uniden number online and get the PROPER place to send your radio in for repair then it is t least a 2 month wait

I was out of town when it arrived so didn’t get to install it until today and it won’t even come on! Apparently I can’t return it at this point but BEWARE!

Screen starts failing almost instantly bought another and same thing 10 minutes later. So disappointed

This radio is fully type accepted by the FCC and is legal in all aspects. It has full power output as allowed by them. There are mods that increase its power but that will remove its FCC type acceptance. Invest money into a good antenna system if you need more range. It has very good audio with the standard supplied microphone. With an amplified microphone you get a boost in audio power and range. SSB is bright and clear on both transmit and receive, AM is clear and tonally rich, FM is truly a desirable signal. The built in speaker is large enough and has enough audio power to be heard in a noisy environment. If you are looking for a solid, well made, CB radio, this one deserves your attention.

I’m not reviewing the radio as I have not used it yet. I noticed a lot of reviews stating that you can’t shut off the beeping noise when changing channels or using other button/knob functions. To remedy (turn offf beeping) press and hold the “ANL/NB” button for one second and no more beeps! It’s in the user manual although it’s poorly defined. No more annoying and unnecessary beeps.
