I bought theses headphones with the only purpose to play some games on my Ps4 and not hear anything, but truly submerge in the game. The NAC and the Ambient mode are the best features of this headset.

Great sound and noise control. But can’t go 3 hours without it needing to charge. Not worth it bc of that. Cheaper brands last longer.

Bought these over a year ago and love them for short-term wear. But when traveling and using these for longer than 2 hours they start to hurt my ears. The noise cancellation is excellent, but for the price I think there are several other headphones that rival in terms of comfort.

The first thing you notice when unboxing these headphones is how light they weigh. They feel lighter than others I’ve handled. That’s a positive attribute. You want something light so that you don’t feel fatigued over time with them on. But the headphones do feel very snug on your head which is probably necessary for the ANC to work its magic. I guess it’s a delicate balance where you want something snug but at the same time loose enough so that it doesn’t hurt during prolonged wear. These are just slightly too snug I feel. That also means that it will likely be hot to wear in the summer. What counteracts the tightness around your head is the fact that the foam cups themselves are supremely soft. The net effect is that the headphones are comfortable after wearing them for 5 minutes or so after you get used to them. There is no fancy app to go with these headphones which is a positive as far as I’m concerned as I’m sick of all the customizations needed just to use a simple set of headphones. Whatever happened to the just put the darn things on and forget it products? All of the controls of these Hesh ANC headphones are on the right side of the cup. You can pair, control the volume, skip/replay songs, turn the headphones off and on. When you turn on the headphones, pair, or turn the ANC on/off, you will hear a British female voice telling you such. I find the voice to be slightly too loud. Both the ANC and Ambient sound functions work really well. The sound on phones is a bit hollow. When you first listen to the headphones without break-in, they sound pretty awful. With ANC off, they sound bloated with heavy booming bass. With the ANC on, they sound more rounded but faint. Even with the volume turned up they sound like they’re turned down low. They don’t get very loud. I guess that’s actually a good thing since it prevents you from damaging your hearing. Unfortunately, after 10+ hours of break-in, they still have the same characteristics as without. Namely, a boominess with the ANC off and a more balanced and lower volume ANC on. Another annoying thing about the headphone is that you can’t use the headphones at all when charging as it will turn off. You can’t even use the 3.5mm to listen to anything when charging. The headphone, which uses a USB-C jack, comes with a cloth bag, a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging, and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.

Most people get noise cancelling headphones so they can relax. So who the hell at Skullcandy thought it was a good idea to have a loud voice shout BATTERY LOW when the headphone power is low. Nothing like being in a state of total relaxation and then have your headphones SHOUT in your ear. Really, the shouting BATTERY LOW made me jump out of me seat so bad I nearly thrown the headphones off my head. Hey Skullcandy, here is some free product advice... how about just lightly beeping a few times when the batter is low. You know, like nearly 100% of all other headphones do. Really? Noice cancelling headphones that shout in your ear? Stupid.

I have worked with numerous pairs of active noise canceling (ANC phones) and I’ve seen a wide variation in sound profiles, features, and the quality of the ANC function. Some are better than others. I was a bit skeptical of these because of the price; most of the ANC phones I have used that were worth anything have a higher price tag. These are better than the price suggests. Right out of the box, these headphones do not draw much attention to themselves. They’re not flashy and do not have any noticeable markings on them unless you’re looking for them. They are over-the-ear headphones which tend to be more comfortable than on-ear phones, and these have a snug fit without clamping down tightly. They adjust easily to fit almost any size head too. The padding on the cans is soft enough to not pinch, though after extended wear they do start to get a little warm. Pairing and connection with my computer was a painless affair and these were ready very quickly after they were powered on. The ANC function is far and away better than any other headphones I have worked with in this price range. They’re almost as aggressive as that of the Bose QC-15’s that I own, without that weird faux pressure sensation when the ANC is turned on. Even with the volume down low, these cancel out enough background noise to make them a serious contender. I have no complaints with the ANC. The sound quality is very good, though not quite to my tastes. The bass is very strong – much stronger than I like personally, but not out of line with what has been trending in the last decade. Where Skullcandy got it right, though, is in how well they’ve implemented the bass enhancement. Even though the bass is very strong (enough to give me a headache at higher volumes), it does not distort or turn into just low-frequency noise. More importantly, the bass enhancement does not stomp on the midrange which is the usual casualty. The midrange is warm and fairly balanced. The highs are bright and clear without being piercing. The end result is a sound profile that sounds full and rich. So many headphones with enhanced bass I have used have killed the midrange which makes music sound hollow, or distort the bass so much as to make music sound like a low-fidelity render. These are refreshing in that regard. Some headphones detect when you take them off and pause music or playback when you take them off. These do not. These come in a carry pouch that offers little in the way of drop and crush protection but it does keep them clean and free of scuffs and scratches. Also included is an audio cable for wired use as well as a USB Type C cable for charging. Overall, these are far and away better than the price would suggest. They are very comfortable to wear, they have a good sound profile (particularly if you like heavy bass) and the ANC function is better than average and competitive with much more expensive headphones. These are budget-friendly ANC headphones with higher-end performance.
