> 3 dayBar stock does not come completely flat which depending on the application can be a real pain. I used this to make a bush craft knife and while it did the job I feel it didn’t harden as well as other 1095 I have used since. All in all it’s good stuff for a beginner knife maker, practice makes perfect!

> 3 dayI ordered the 4 pack of 1095 high carbon steel just to try them out and see if this company might be better than who i usually get 1095 from 1- packaging was not the best basically the four pieces stuck together with packaging tape on both ends no effort to try to keep rust from forming 2- these were shear cut which leaves rough sides and anyone who has ever used a shear knows the pieces always have some sort of defect primarily a bow which with the pieces that is what has happened 3- as far as the finish its pretty good no deep gouges or scrapes so thats a plus 4- all in all i think i will stick with who i normally my steel from like i said these arent the best but they are not the worst i have dealt with either but as a custom knife maker the more time I spend fixing issues the more time it takes to make a knife which means less productivity and less $$

> 3 dayNathan, the owner of this company is a class act and he knows his product inside and out. I would definitely recommend Patriot Steel as it is most certainly a superior product to Mr. Volcano steel.

> 3 dayTo state upfront, I am new the knife making (but looking forward to starting a new hobby). The reasons I purchased from this seller was that the cost was a little cheaper and I felt that it would be easier for me to start with 1/8 thick material. Bars came wrapped in butcher paper. Each bar was straight and I didnt notice any significant gouges. Tip for newbies: For those who dont have a bandsaw or grinder - you can rough in your general shape with a standard hacksaw pretty easily. Edit 1: I was able to heat treat using a buddys oven. No noticeable warping - wahoo! Spent a fair amount of time sanding, but eventually came away with something I was happy with. Finished things off with some simple scales (red oak stock I purchased from HD). Overall, it was a pleased with this steel.
