There is definitely a good amount of resistance in the hinge. Normal tapping and swiping on my iPad didnt cause it to change the angle, but with a reasonable amount of pressure, it was easily adjusted to whatever angle I needed. A steal at this price. The rests for the tablet are padded, so no scraping of the finish. The only drawback could also be considered a plus: gravity only holds the tablet in place, so it could possibly tip out to the side when pressing on the side of the screen of a larger tablet than my 5th Gen iPad, but that also means its easy to place my tablet onto or take it out of the stand. No straps or clamps to mess with. Fortunately for me, it works exactly as well as I could want. If you have a larger tablet, it may be fine, it may not. Just my guess on that, so look for reviews from someone with a larger tablet than my 9.7 in. screen.
