The Stranger was a strangely compelling, dramatic vampire movie quite unlike most of them that come out. This was a breath of fresh air for a genre that has been played out to a crazy extent, it was reminiscent of the fantastic Near Dark while remaining new and original

Boring and Eli Roth - never thought those two would ever be in the same sentence. But this is the least interesting, most tedious film Ive rented this year. No thrills, chills, twists, or anything even remotely connected to the horror genre. Definitely dont wste your time or money, even if youre a huge Eli Roth fan, like me. Even the audio seemed off and poorly dubbed. I guess he needed some extra change to tip the valet while hes at some nice restaurant planning to turn his career around, so he attached his name to this plodding hunk of junk. After this, and the disaster that was Aftershock, Im definitely hoping he puts in a bit more effort into the genre he was just starting to establish himself in.

This movie just got worse and worse! The writing was completely inept. The lead (vampire?) was completely inconsistent; he was callus enough to not quickly kill his wife, but rather wanted to burn her alive. Yet he wouldnt even kill the cops kid that tried to kill him, nor the cop that nearly burned the other kid nearly to death. Which of course leaves the cop alive to further sow his evil vengeance on the other characters once again. The lead vampire is nearly killed from a beating and then stabbing, yet later the evil cop shoots him multiple times, which suddenly doesnt even phase him. Initially the vampire gets angry for the people trying to help him that he yells not to touch his blood, yet later he has no problem smearing his blood all over the kids severe burns to heal him. Other than minor characters, all the characters are unlikable. The writing and directing are bad and amateur. I struggled to even get half way through before giving up and being disgusted at renting this garbage.

Very ok, not a bad movie wont watch it again though. Gore wasnt that good and a lot of the characters were boring and 1 dimensional. Story was not very original

I think Im one of 22 people around the world who dug this film, though Im loathe to admit I agree with Eli Roth on anything.

The bad reviews here are a bum rap on this film. I liked it a lot and I have no truck with the many mediocre horror films Ive suffered through for love of the genre. I watch just about any supernatural horror film that comes out and this one is far above average in every way. It was well written, acted, produced, etc. The music was particularly good. Reminded me of Let the Right One In in certain ways.
