Greater than one weekThis 3-48 tap cut cleanly and easily, small taps are always a challenge. Very nice

Greater than one weekAs a gunsmith I deal with many abused platforms. This tap works wonders for chasing 6-40 screws like scope rings and small trigger group screw holes. Ordered and it showed up as promised.

Greater than one weekI hand tapped over 30 holes at 4mm depth for some grub screws and they all came out perfect. Lots of the negative comments are from misuse. Remember to use cutting oil and back out a little constantly. Most importantly, make sure you are pre-drilling the right size diameter hole before tapping. The correct size can be found online. For an M4 tap, you need a 3.3mm hole.

> 3 dayBenchcrafted sends machine-threaded screws to attach the Retro Crisscross and Glide hardware for their renowned leg vise, rather than wood lag bolts/screws. Surprisingly for me, they actually worked quite well. This Bottom Tap has thread cutters almost to the end of the tool, allowing you to drill a hole slightly longer than the effective depth of the screw, unlike the taps available at big-box home improvement stores which have a longer distance between the full-sized cutting thread and the end of the tap. Since Im using it on Southern Yellow Pine, theres no appreciable wear on the tap while using it, and it was the right tool for this job.

> 3 dayThis 5/8-28 tap matches the thread in the tail of a 2AA Mini Maglite. I had a battery leak, and the resulting corrosion made it very difficult to unscrew the tail cap (I had to clamp it in a chuck). I eventually got it apart, extracted the batteries, and scraped out the residue, but the threads were badly galled. I used a needle file to clean up the external threads on the tail cap, but had to buy this tap to re-cut the internal threads. Note that some internet sources say the Mini Maglite has a 27-pitch instead of a 28-pitch thread. While a 27-pitch thread would probably work just fine (since the threaded part of the cap is only about four threads long), I inspected the Maglite threads under a microscope with a thread gauge and I am certain it is actually 28 TPI. I had no problem re-cutting the internal threads with this tap, and the tail cap now screws right in. Of course, for the price of this tap I could have just bought a new flashlight. But I generally err on the side of buying new tools, and these flashlights are very common (there are at least three in my household) so Im sure this wont be my only opportunity to use it.
