> 24 hourAfter giving my Dad 16GB of DDR4 SODIMM RAM that I took out of my laptop when I upgraded to 32gb and seeing the performance improvement, I didnt want to leave my mom out. I did a ton of research on the topic to figure out what the best option would be for a RAM upgrade for the 2017 iMac 5K and found a lot of conflicting information. The RAM that came from my laptop and went into my Dads iMac was DDR4 SODIMM 3200MHz C22 from Micron, and it had no issue at all, it just downclocked to the appropriate speed. Because of this experience I decided, even though some people had written that Microns RAM didnt work or wasnt recommended for the iMac unless you buy their Mac specific stuff to give it a try and it worked like a charm. Both my parents are now running 24GB DDR4 SODIMM at 2400MHz thanks to Micron! I highly recommend sticking with RAM that has Micron or SK Hynix RAM IC’s to upgrade your iMac. Great overall experience!

> 24 hourInstalled this in my new HP 14-DF0023CL, which has an Intel core i3 (8th gen), and came with one 4gb stick in Slot 1 (Samsung 2666mhz) and an empty slot 2. I powered down the laptop, removed the bottom cover (which required carefully removing the rubber strips to reveal additional screws), removed the 4gb stick), and put an 8gb stick in each slot. Because of the notches where the sticks slide in, the stick in slot 2 had to go upside down (Crucial sticker facing down). I was a little worried about this, but I put it in, reinstalled the cover (the rubber feet easily go back), and turned the laptop back on. I checked the RAM in settings, and it immediately reported 16GB RAM! The whole thing took about 5-10 minutes. I didn’t need to do any upgrade to the BIOS, which some people mentioned might be required if the laptop doesn’t recognize the new RAM. All in all I’m very happy. 4 GB RAM was adequate, but 16 GB RAM is noticeably quicker. Price and value are great!
