I’ve bought charcoal bags before and they’ve always been fine. I wish I would have opened these within the return window because they stink so bad like campfire. Bamboo charcoal is supposed to be odorless, so I have strong doubts that this is what it claims to be. From a source (Aside from their odor-free nature, bamboo charcoal bags are also an excellent choice for homes with pets and children because they are all-natural and fragrance-free. ) These ARE NOT fragrance free- everyone in my family immediately asked what the smell was when they walked into the room where I put one. It smells like the charcoal was actually dug out of a used campfire. I hung 2 on my open air porch to see if they would air out, and you can still smell them on the porch even though it’s a large fully open porch. The odor cannot be good for us. I’m probably going to have to toss them in the trash (outside trash bc they stink too much to put them in the kitchen trash). The reviews claiming there is no scent must be fake. Believe the rest of us. Do not buy. Update: these have been outside and sunned for 2 days and I can still smell them from several feet away. I’m starting to wonder if they’ve already been used to absorb smoke smell from a fire and repackaged/resold.

Rejuvenate For Up To 2 Years ... in the sunlight for a couple of hours I can find absolutely no scientific evidence that UV light has any effect on activated carbon. I measured the amount of UVA and UVB light that gets through the double layer bag holding the charcoal: in direct sunlight, producing 262 microwatts/cm^2 the bag blocks all but 39 microwatts/cm^2 (only 15% gets through). The top layer of charcoal would stop any light from reaching anything below. The standard ways to regenerate activated carbon are: Regeneration / Active Carbon Activated carbon is an expensive product. In most of the cases the cost of replacing the saturated carbon would be prohibitive. It should therefore be regenerated, and four methods have been developed for this purpose: Steam regeneration This method is restricted to regenerating carbon which has only retained a few very volatile products. Thermal regeneration By pyrolysis and burning off of adsorbed organic substances. In order to avoid igniting the carbon, it is heated to about 800 °C in a controlled atmosphere. Biological regeneration This method of regeneration has not yet been applied on an industrial scale.

We used these in our closet that has our dogs food/treats and my husbands stinky running shoe closet- works instantly!!!!!!!

I live in a very small unit with one small dog (that is fastidiously clean. But with the onset of cold wintertime (and closed windows) our living quarters started to smell punky, no matter how carefully I cleaned and laundered. I bought the Nature Fresh bags as an experiment. It doesnt rely on any artificial fragrances to mask odors and the bags/sachets can be refreshed without any significant effort or expense on my part. As soon as my order arrived, I placed two of them in the small main living area and the other two in the closet. Within hours, I noticed that the closed, fustiness odors of our living area seemed to have been reduced. By the next day, I could no longer detect that troubling punky odor. Thats one quick result -- at a modest cost. The only reason this isnt a full 5-star rating is that I live in the Pacific NW, where rain is the winter norm and two hours of direct sunlight is infrequent. So, re-charging / refreshing the bags by placing them in direct sunlight for the recommended 1-2 hours isnt that easy. This is a minor challenge and Ill just take advantage of sunlit days as best I can. Otherwise, I am very pleased with results and am very impressed how nicely made the fabric charcoal bags/sachets are. The charcoal is fully enclosed and there is no risk of charcoal dust or particles seeping out. The manufacturers added two nice touches to their product: a good-quality grommet is placed in one corner so the bags can be hung on a hanger or hook, AND 4 hanging hooks are included -- no need to shop or rummage around for hangee thingees . How nice to be able to reduce persistent unpleasant odors in an environmentally safe way!

Bought these to put in the bottom of our diaper pail and closet the liter box is in. Too early to really tell if theyre working. One downfall: they carry an odor themselves. Yes- I understand theyre charcoal, but they *really* smell like something is burning. I imagine if they were put in a gym bag your clothes would smell like you were sitting around a camp fire.

Had musty, icky smells in our large and over-stuffed walk-in closet. (Pet beds as well). Not really awful, but noticeable. Hung 3 of these inside, and they took care of smells, just as advertised. The hanging hook and all included, could not have been easier to put up/use. Will definitely use again when needed.

I purchased based upon positive reviews. I used 3 inside a car that had cigarette smoke smell and 1 in a walk in closet with armpit smell. It took a while for them to remove the smell, but they did so very well, At first there is a strange smell that overpowers the existing odor, but after awhile there is no odor or smell. I would purchase again.
