Acer Predator XB271HU Review Pros: 1440p (Higher Resolution Than 1080p, But Less Than 4K 144Hz (Up To 144fps In Games, If Your Graphics Card Can Handle It) IPS (Better Color and Viewing Angles Than Other Monitor Types, such as TN Panels) G-Sync Enabled (Eliminate Tearing and Shuttering If Used With An NVidia Graphics Card) Ultra Low Motion Blur Mode Available Low Response Lag Great Color Reproduction Has USB Inputs Very Adjustable (Can Swivel Up And Down and Left To Right) Has Low Blue Light Modes Cons: (few) Poor Instruction Manual Somewhat Tricky To Assemble To Base Comes With Short Cables (3 or 4 ft cables) The Panel Screen Does Not Go All The Way To The Bezel, Leaving A Dark Edge Around The Sides Of The Screen (Only A Disappointment If Using Multiple Monitors Side by Side) My Experiences: This is a great monitor. I upgraded from a 24 1920x1200 60Hz Asus IPS monitor and this monitor is definitely better. The 1440p resolution really pops in games as does the high refresh rate. I will say, however, that 1080p gaming at 60fps is still very good. If I were a college kid or someone without a lot of income I do not think the $600 to $700 you would spend on a monitor like this will provide you with that much better of an experience while gaming. I play all types of games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Skyrim, etc. and this monitor does make those games look better and feel nicer, but it is hard for me to say my experience has increased $600 worth. If you are a casual gamer or looking to get the most bang-for-your-buck I would recommend sticking with a 1080p monitor. It is also worth noting that this monitor will require you to have a fairly strong NVidia graphics card to use it to its full potential. Features such as G-Sync and ULMB require an NVidia card. They do, however, make similar monitors with features such as Freesync that will work with AMD graphics cards. To get the full 1440p@144fps you will have to connect this monitor to you computer using a display port cable. The included cable it only about 4ft. so you may need to purchase a longer cable. I got a 15ft. cable on amazon for about $12. If you use HDMI you will be limited to 1440p and 60fps so I highly recommend using a display port cable to connect this monitor. The OSD (display menu) is fairly user friendly. I am a computer savvy person and it took me about 30 minutes to really understand and play with all the available options in this monitors OSD. Outside of gaming this monitor has both advantages and disadvantages. At 1440p you will have more space on your desktop for various applications, typing, coding, etc. but while watching movies or viewing pictures online you may find them to be smaller. Because this monitor is nearly double the resolution of most online video and pictoral content you may find YouTube and other videos to be smaller, but sharper on the screen. If you spend most of your time watching movies, such as YouTube or Netflix (especially if not viewing at full screen), you may be better off with a regular 1080p monitor. I did not find any dead pixels, significant back light bleed, or any other defect with this product. Closing Thoughts: This is a great high-end monitor for your above-average gamer with fiscal means. Your experience will be better than at 1080p60fps, but by how much depends on the user. It comes with all the bells and whistles one would look for in a gaming monitor, but at a high price. The instructions manual is a little sub-par. To use this monitor to its fullest you will have to be a little bit computer saavy and cannot just simply plug it into any computer and expect miracles, but will have to have the correct hardware and will need to adjust settings in your computer and in the monitors OSD. 6 Month Update: Ive been using this monitor for 6 months now. I would still have to stand by my previous review. This is still the best monitor I have used for gaming, but it is not without flaws. If you spend a lot of time gaming and you want the best playing at 1440p, at high FPS will make gaming better, but how much better is debatable. If you are looking for the best bang for your buck look elsewhere. If you have the means and are an enthusiast you will get the most out of your high-end GPU/CPU combination with this monitor. Playing BF1 at max settings, 1440p at aprox 120FPS looks simply amazing.

Yea i got these around $272, finished my triple monitor sim rig and I forgot how amazing ips panels can be, i have had one since it was release way back when and it still works fantastic. ULMB made these things great in gaming like fps, and the ips and gsync makes them great in more cinematic or all the prettys mode games.

Ive been using two 24 Asus TN monitors for the last couple of years. While they have been sufficient for my tasks, I wanted to upgrade to an IPS panel. After reading many reviews and watching countless youtube videos regarding the build quality and back light bleed, I was very very apprehensive about making this purchase. Boy do I feel foolish as this monitor is beautiful. The back light bleed (blb) is a non-issue. There is an ever so slight glow in the top right corner, but that is it. My room has to be pitch dark to even pick it up. I wanted to comment on that issue in case there are any others out there who are considering this monitor and are worried about the blb. Im sure I had some luck involved in getting a good panel, but Im very satisfied. Seemingly much like the rest of the community that is in the market for this monitor, I also found myself looking at the MG279q from Asus. They have the same panel. Obviously, I decided on the Acer version. Tbh the only reason I decided to purchase the Acer was because of the price difference. I like the look of the MG279q from Asus more, but I just couldnt justify the price difference. The experience on this monitor so far has been top notch. There is a obvious improvement in the screen resolution and color rendering. The blacks are more black, the screen is more clear, and images just seem to pop. Going from a 1 ms TN panel to a 4 ms IPS is not noticeable. I play Apex and Destiny 2 and the experience has been wonderful so far. The games look so much better on the IPS display. Set-up took less than a minute with assembling the stand and fixing it to the monitor. In summary, if you are considering this monitor and have the money, dont hesitate. If you get a bad panel, Im sure Amazons FANTASTIC return policy will work out for you.

Update 2/17/18: I found a dead pixel I missed. Going to exchange this for another one. Fingers crossed. Predator 1440p 27 IPS - Amazing monitor! Im not an expert on monitors at all. In fact, ive only bought one other monitor for gaming and it was a much cheaper $200 monitor which this replaced. My previous monitor was a 1ms 60hz 1080p and did what it could very well for its time. I did a lot of research on going to 1440p and what response times, refresh rates and TN vs IPS means. I found most reviews for IPS monitors saying its a roll of the dice since the quality control isnt where it should be, which could result in multiple returns until you got a good monitor. The first monitor i received was perfect out of the box. No dead pixels and I dont see any back light bleed (BLB). Granted im not an expert on monitors, so i could be missing the BLB but i just know i have zero complaints about the picture. I did have to look up best settings because out of the box the picture was clearly wrong and from my research I had learned that I should only use that as a starting point because every monitor is different and each persons perception and preference is different. So I had my starting point and adjusted until everything looks close to perfect for me. My only complaint about the monitor is the controls for the on screen display. They are ok and get the job done, but there is a lot of room for improvement. But since the setup is done, the only time I use those controls is to change my input from DP to HDMI, which isnt as easy as it should be, but it does the job (shouldnt take 4-5 button pushes to change between only two inputs). Pros: Colors - Holy hell do the colors look amazing on IPS, I dont think ill ever willingly go back to TN (just my preference) Refresh rate G-Sync - This is something I wont be able to live without in the future as long as I have NVIDIA GPUs 1440p - I can definitely see the increase in clarity from 1080p Cons: Only 2 inputs Controls - OSD controls are mediocre and annoying to toggle between only 2 inputs If you are buying this for gaming and want to know how my GPU handles the upgrade to 1440. I currently have an MSI GTX 970 (not over-clocked). Games like GTA V, Tomb Raider (2013) and Hitman Absolution look amazing and run at 50-60fps on 1440p and almost maxed out on settings. I tried running Witcher 3 and even had to dial back some graphics settings from the NVIDIA Experience recommended settings to get it to run at 50-60fps. Witcher 3 looks beyond amazing, but I do still get a little stutter when running and turning my character. Ive yet to try anything else, but Im assuming any newer AAA titles might need to have settings lowered or run on 1080p for them to run well. Hoping to upgrade to the next generation of NVIDIA cards once they come out, to really get the benefit of this monitor. Also, I havent played much of my PS4 (launch day version) on this, but the little I did looked great. TLDR: If you are in the market for a 1440p that looks amazing, i would highly recommend this monitor. If you will be switching between inputs multiple times a day though, the controls on this might frustrate you.

Im going to start with the bad, because it seems a lot of the reviews on this product focus on that. Yes, this monitor has light bleed. Take a look at my picture. Most of the bleed is on the right side top and bottom corners. In a dark room with a complete black screen its very noticeable (but it does look worse in a picture than it does in person). I could focus on the fact that this is not a perfect monitor and the light bleed seems excessive, but honestly it doesnt bother me one bit. This monitor is just too good in all other areas to let that bother me. And the light bleed has had zero impact on my in-game experience. I never notice it, even during dark scenes because when watching motion on the screen its just not noticeable to me. Now, let me focus on the good...this monitor has taken what I thought was a decent gaming experience on my high quality Dell 60Hz monitor and showed me what a gaming monitor can do! Ive been living with screen tears and motion blur my whole gaming life not realizing what high refresh rate along with G-sync can deliver and this is beyond what I could have imagined. I just finished Call of Duty Modern Warfare and this game was gorgeous! Absolutely smooth as butter with frame rates in the 60-100 range. But whats key to me is that 60-100 never felt different. It just ran completely smooth the entire time. Moving the mouse quickly to turn around caused no screen tear at all. Aiming was so much crisper and kills came much more naturally...feeling more connected to the game through my mouse and keyboard. Im so spoiled with this monitor and wont ever go back to a traditional 60Hz monitor to game on ever again! Other notes on this monitor that I really enjoy...the base is extremely solid and heavy. It has small rubber feet on the bottom that keeps it from sliding, and it really doesnt take up that much more room than my old monitor. It has all the configuration options I could need. It allows for lower/raise, up to 90 degree rotation, and right to left swivel, and it stays in place, no drooping. My monitor has no dead pixels (whew!). The on screen display is a bit cumbersome to use, but it does its job and once I found the settings I like I dont really need to pull it up very often. The speakers on this monitor are pretty mediocre, but I have a set of computer speakers and mostly game with headphones, so that isnt an important feature for me. It has 2 USB 3.0 ports which are very handy, but I felt like the USB cord was about a foot too short...I had to use a USB extension cable to let the cable reach my computer. But the Display Port cable was plenty long, so Im not sure why the USB cable couldnt be the same length. But having high speed USB on my monitor is great. Overall Im extremely pleased with this monitor. I researched what monitor to buy for several days, and came down to this one and the Asus PG279Q. After doing research on the two, I learned that they both use the same underlying display panel, so the difference came down to aesthetics and price, and this monitor was a much cheaper option at my time of purchase. So Im confident I made the right purchase. If youre into gaming and want to take it to the next level, I would recommend this monitor for sure!

Ive read many reviews pointing out how the buyer received a faulty monitor and had to return, with some even saying that they received 2-3 faulty monitors before finally getting a working product. It may just be luck, but Im happy to report I have none of the problems that are mentioned in other reviews. I even expected a little back bleed and/or ips glow, knowing that both are common with IPS monitors, but was surprised to see that neither are a problem, and can honestly say that with my naked eyes I cant see any back bleed at all, even in a black screen with the brightness cranked. I must point out though that Ive only owned the monitor for about a month and a half, so time will tell if the quality will degrade or not. As for the monitor itself, it is without a doubt, the nicest monitor Ive ever owned. Coming from a 1080p TN panel, the jump in color/picture accuracy asking with the jump in resolution was instantly noticeable, and is still impressive close to 2 months later. I bought this monitor while playing through Blood and Wine, and the look of the new bloom in Touissant was at best annoying, at worst downright ugly on my 144hz 1080p BenQ monitor, when compared to the base game. I couldnt understand how anybody could think it was beautiful, and for some, more-so than the base game. But then I got this monitor. Holy hell I had no idea what I was missing. The beauty of that game is completely wasted on a TN panel, and 1080p for that matter. The same is true for every other game Ive tested since getting this monitor. Using DSR to scale up to higher resolutions can help image quality, but is nowhere near as good as the real thing, not even close. TL;DR - Bottom line: if you can afford it, stop thinking about it, but it. I cant speak for those who received a faulty product, but with a perfect condition monitor, theres no way you wont be impressed. Hands down, this is the best display I have ever owned. Playing MGSV and Fallout 4 is blazing fast and beautiful. I can definitely tell the difference from 60 Hz to 144 Hz, and I havent even tried overclocking to 165 Hz. Response time is also quick at 4 ms. The colors are phenomenal thanks to the IPS display. there is just no comparison after coming from my old Samsung 40. However, make sure to adjust the default settings, as it can be really bright at first. I have a 980ti so I can make use of the built in G-Sync and there is zero screen tearing, even with V-Sync off. G-Sync is supposed to have less input lag than V-Sync, so this is a plus. I guess a con would be you cant take advantage of this with AMD cards. The stand is really nice. It looks much better than in the picture. It also feels very sturdy. Be aware though, you can lower the screen really low so that it stands 15.8 above the desk, but the stand itself will stick out at about 16.8, barely clearing the roof of my desk at 17. I also like that it includes built in speakers; not great, as this monitor should be used with a good pair of headphones, but the speakers are useful when sharing the screen. And then theres the imperfections, which are glaring considering the price tag. My display has a dead pixel just right of center. I know this is within normal limits, but its really frustrating. Moreover, there is significant backlight bleed at the bottom right corner (see pic), which is apparently common with this model. The on screen display (OSD) is very clunky, but after a few mishaps, I got used to it. Weirdly enough, the power button gets stuck and it takes a few presses (sometimes 3) to register; turned off deep sleep and that seems to have helped. TL;DR, I absolutely love this monitor, but Im currently torn whether to keep it or return it. Again, the issues are minor but when youre paying this much for a 27, you expect the best build quality possible.

I have had this monitor for 4+ weeks now. This is my initial pre-calibration review. I am getting an an X-Rite i1 Display Pro soon and after Ive gotten through the learning curve and calibrated it myself, Ill post a followup.(SEE END FOR FOLLOW-UP) I bought the XB271HU after patiently reading every monitor review for the past years or so. I have a GTX 1080 TI and have been running it on a Dell U2415 at 60Hz since the spring. I wanted a very good monitor that could work well for desktop and gaming since my machine is heavily used for both. I had been wanting a GSYNC IPS or VA 2560x1440 monitor in the 30-32 range so the desktop DPI issue didnt become an issue but there are are none as of the moment. This monitor was one of the most highly reviewed 27 so I decided to throw caution to the wind and give it a try. After 4 weeks, here is my pro/con list: If you have read the reviews, none of these are a surprise. Pros: - Excellent gsync monitor - 144/165Hz makes gaming fluid even with gsync off running a GTX 1080 TI - Love the light anti glare coating - Lots of screen real estate Cons: - UI is difficult to maneuver - Out of the box: Colors are washed out. Whites are dull. Blacks are grey-ish. Blacks are crushed - Yellowish tint obvious even when using commonly available ICC profiles from various review sites - For desktop use, its not nearly as nice as a quality desktop monitor but absolutely awesome as a gaming monitor The DPI of this monitor causes me eyestrain and Windows 10 scaling (even with the creators update) helps but does not make it good -- But thats not the monitors fault. The real estate is nice but I have to strain a little to see the small stuff. What is poor are the colors. I have tried a number of ICC profiles from review sites and none of them have resulted in what I would say are decent colors. Shadows are crushed to black and much detail is lost. Whites are not crisp. Well see how this all fairs after I calibrate it myself. So all in all, I it still earns a 5 because it is a gaming monitor and gaming at 144/165 fps is very pleasing. The DPI scaling doesnt present any problems with the games I play. Gaming with gsync and/or are high refresh rates is, as they say ,buttery smooth when you have your games tweaked for a 144/165 fps cap to match the monitor. --------------------------------------- EDIT 12/31/17 Follow-Up I received my X-rite i1 display pro and spent several days learning how to use it with the DisplayCal software. After calibration, the picture significantly improved. I calibrated to 6500k, 140 nit (my preferred brightness level). Whites are much whiter now. Colors improved and blacks and shadow detail got much better. My black level comes in at .16 and black crush in several of my games disappeared. Contrast level is still a bit anemic at 880:1 ---------------------------------------

I’m using this to game on my Xbox Series S but the same goes for Series X. For this to work for you , you need to make some adjustments. 1) make sure you’re using an HDMI 2.1 cable or else 4k at 120hz is not possible. 2) make sure to enable HDR on the monitor in settings and make sure you have HDR enabled on the Xbox as well in settings. Make sure to have your display as auto-detect and it’s not on HDMI(without auto detect being enabled you can’t do 4k). 3) make sure to calibrate HDR settings on the Xbox. 4) enable 120hz and 4k UHD on Xbox display settings. 5) some games require you enable 120fps on the game itself, for example I needed to go into MW2 settings and manually enable 120fps. Great monitor and very clear and sharp. Awesome for competitive gaming

No dead pixels on arrival, that is a good start. The monitor is amazing. Just to clarify, I jumped from a 1920x1080, 60hz, 23, 20ms response time TN panel monitor. The jump was quite big and I cant believe what I was missing. So far I have been playing FFXIV and the amount of screen resolution allows me to rearrange the HUD for better visibility and less cluttered screen. The colors are more vibrant and a lot brighter. In fact maybe too bright at times. Everything in the screen is more vibrant and well detailed now. Yes, there is some light bleeding when is all black but considering my previous experience it is very tolerable to the point that I believe that all monitors will have some type of light bleed, except plasma. It is not visible on black scenes but black screens so it is not always constant. I also have my PS4 connected and I was concern that it would not scale well. It infact does scaled the PS4 to 1080 and it looks great. The colors are better in this monitor but I dont feel that it blows the previous TN panel out of the water. With the TN panel it looked like there is a white tint layer on top of the screen. With the IPS panel it looks like the tint was removed and the colors come to life. Other than that the PS4 image looks sharp on both monitors. Considering the features and comparing it to what is out there right now this monitor is the best. The other options are an Asus ROG Swift and the other Acer (not the Predator.) The ROG seems to have worst quality assurance and the Acer not as many features. I almost forgot that it has speakers but the quality of the sound is forgettable. But is nice to have them for me as I dont have speakers and use headphones for the most part.
